Mark O'Connell

Mark is founder and strategy and insights director with Repucon Consulting, specialising in tourism, sport and recreation.  He has over 25 years’ experience delivering senior level research and insights programmes, independent economic analysis and impact reviews, strategic planning, business case development, feasibility studies and independent economic reviews.

He has extensive experience in destination development and is the author of a number of current destination and experience development plans being implemented across Ireland’s regional brands of the Wild Atlantic Way, Ireland’s Ancient East and Dublin.  He is a strategic research specialist and applies innovative research techniques for insight development applied to all projects from destination planning, tourism masterplanning, feasibility and strategic plan development.

Prior to establishing Repucon Consulting, Mark was founder of W2 Consulting and Consulting Director with BDO. Mark is a past winner of a National Marketing Award from the Chartered Institute of Marketing for Marketing Innovation. He has been an external advisor to undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in UL and LIT. He holds a BSc (Econ), MSc and MBA. He has undertaken additional professional training in advanced qualitative research techniques and Social Return on Investment analysis.

He is also the founding director of Sport Tourism Ireland who provide strategic advisory and project implementation services to public and private sector bodies in the creation and delivery of sport tourism strategies and event activation.

International Tourism Associate

Professor Terry Stevens

Professor Terry Stevens is an international tourism associate with Repucon Consulting.  He has worked in over 50 countries through his international tourism consultancy specializing in destination development and place-making.  He has worked in the industry since 1970 holding a number of senior positions in the public and private sectors prior to establishing his consultancy. This included time with the Wales Tourist Board, The US National Parks Service, Welsh Historic Monuments and the Coke Estate.

Stevens & Associates clients include many of the major international development agencies (including the UN World Tourism Organisation, UNESCO, The World Bank, European Bank of Reconstruction, European Investment Bank, The UK Department for International Development and USAID) as well as national, regional and city governments. The private sector client’s have included Coca Cola, The Buccleuch Group (Britain’s largest private landowner), The Duke of Devonshire, Scottish Racing, the Welsh Rugby Union, The European Arenas Association and many other blue-chip companies.
