Economic Development Strategy

The Ask

Repucon Consulting and MKO, Galway were engaged by Mayo Co. Council to develop an economic development plan for Westport and Castlebar, adopting a regional cluster approach.

The Approach

An assessment of the local economic opportunities was undertaken in addition to a wide level of consultations across all local stakeholder groups.  An assessment of international approaches to regional cluster development and best practice was undertaken to inform the thought process.

The Outcome

The strategic approach to developing the economic cluster was the formation of the Castlebar Westport Economic Growth Axis.  The plan incorporated a range of economic and spatial strategies to pursue in line with national and regional policy.  The successful approach in developing the growth Axis model was subsequently replicated for Ballina and North Mayo.  This project was also undertaken by Repucon Consulting in partnership with MKO.
